The competition will feature numerous international stars as well as a strong contingent of American standouts.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #808080;\">011<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000080;\">WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEDALIST KATIE DRABOT RETIRES FROM SWIMMING<\/span> <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>by Dan D\u2019Addona<\/strong><br \/>\nKatie Drabot, who has represented the USA in several international meets and who won a bronze medal in the 200 butterfly at the 2019 World Championships, announced her retirement from swimming. The 13-time All-American from Stanford helped the Cardinal to three consecutive NCAA Championships and was on three NCAA-title relays.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #808080;\">012<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000080;\">BELIEVE IN YOURSELF<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>by Dan D\u2019Addona<\/strong><br \/>\nThat\u2019s the lesson Polish swimmer Kasia Wasick learned after retiring from swimming six years ago because of a shoulder injury, then returning with a newfound confidence and appreciation for the sport she loves.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #808080;\">015<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000080;\">MADISYN COX, VINDICATED NATIONAL CHAMPION, RETIRES FROM SWIMMING<\/span> <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>by Dan D\u2019Addona<\/strong><br \/>\nWorld champion swimmer Madisyn Cox, who, perhaps, had one of the most roller coaster careers in swimming history, announced her retirement from swimming. She was a world champion on a relay, world medalist and narrowly missed a spot on the Olympic team. She also was suspended for a banned substance\u2014preventing her from competing at the U.S. Trials for the 2019 World Championships\u2014but later vindicated during an appeal.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #808080;\">016<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000080;\">AFTER DOPING ORDEAL, ROLAND SCHOEMAN FINDING PEACE WITH POST-SWIMMING LIFE<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>by Matthew De George<\/strong><br \/>\nSouth Africa\u2019s Roland Schoeman had been to four Olympics, missed out on a fifth in 2016, and had his sights set on Tokyo in 2020. That changed in July of 2019 when FINA informed him that he had tested positive for a substance he strenuously maintains he hadn\u2019t used. However, as Schoeman has turned the page on his career, he\u2019s finding his way outside of the water, working in real estate and as a motivational speaker.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #808080;\">020<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000080;\">HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE INTERNATIONAL SWIMMING HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>by John Lohn<\/strong><br \/>\nThroughout the International Swimming Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Oct. 14-15, members of the Class of 2022 shared numerous stories during their enshrinement speeches. It was truly a celebratory event in Fort Lauderdale, the 57th of its kind. Leading the way was Regan Smith, who put together a sterling time of 1:49.43 in the 200 yard backstroke.
