SYDNEY, Australia, September 2. SWIMMING Australia has announced the names of the athletes who will compete during the first three stops on the FINA World Cup Short Course Series, scheduled to begin in November in Durban, South Africa. The South African stop will be held from November 11-13 and will be followed by a stop in Sydney from November 19-20. The third event will be held in Daejon, Korea from November 24-25.<\/p>\n
Alan Thompson, the Aussie National Coach, has a number of world-class athletes ready to go, including Brooke Hanson and Jade Edmistone. Hanson is an Olympic medalist from Athens and was the top female performer at last year\u2019s World Short Course Championships in Indianapolis. As for Edmistone, she recently won gold in the 50-meter breaststroke at the World Championships in Montreal, setting a world record in the process. Danni Miatke, the reigning world champ in the 50 fly, will also take part in the World Cup series.<\/p>\n
While Thompson will have veteran Ashley Callus at his disposal, he\u2019s hoping to find some emerging talent on the male side, particularly after Australia enjoyed a sub-par showing among its men in Montreal, with the exception of Grant Hackett. An Olympian and rising talent for the Aussie men, Eamon Sullivan will be supported by a handful of youngsters looking to break out on the international scene, including Nick Ffrost.<\/p>\n
Representing Australia in Durban and Sydney will be: Ashley Callus, Eamon Sullivan, Kenrick Monk, Ashley Delaney, Nick Ffrost, Leith Brodie, Brooke Hanson, Jade Edmistone, Sarah Katsoulis and Danni Miatke.<\/p>\n
