MONTREAL, Canada, July 29. BENOIT Huot’s preparation for the Para-Pan American championships has been interrupted by the news that seven of his gold medals from various international competitions were stolen last weekend from his new home in Montreal.<\/p>\n
Huot, who has been training on the other side of the country in British Columbia, had stored his medals in a locked garage while his new home in Montreal was being renovated, according to Swimming Canada. One of those medals was one of the 19 that he has won at the Paralympic Games, while three came from the Para-Pan American championships and three others from the Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
Huot is not competing in the Commonwealth Games this year because there are no races in the S10 category, which is the division in which Huot has competed in for his entire career. Huot was born with club feet and has been a national treasure since winning three golds and three silvers at the 2000 Paralympics.<\/p>\n
“The other stuff, they’re replaceable, but not the medals,” Huot said. “It has no (monetary) value attached to it pretty much. It’s all sentimental and emotional and that’s it. These are things I want to give to my kids.”<\/p>\n
