NEW YORK, August 22. ANDREW Johnson capped the New York Summer Swim Series, a group of open-water events, with a victory over the weekend during the Little Red Lighthouse Swim. A 40-year-old from Albuquerque, N.M., Johnson won the men\u2019s division by nearly two minutes over New York\u2019s Conor MacDonald. James Sheehan, also of New York, placed third.<\/p>\n
"I'd always won my age group, but this is the first time I won the whole thing," said Johnson, a veteran of over one dozen Manhattan Island Foundation swims. "The water and weather were terrific. It was a great race."<\/p>\n
New York\u2019s Megan Griffis was the champion of the women\u2019s division and finished seventh in the overall competition. Griffis edged Marcella MacDOnald and Colleen Alderson for the female title. The swim covered 5.85 miles, beginning at Hudson River Park\u2019s Clinton Cove and ending within view of the George Washington Bridge and the Little Red Lighthouse.<\/p>\n
The field featured 113 swimmers representing California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia, as well as France and Ireland. Swimmers ranged in age from 16 – 76. Proceeds from the race benefited the Parks and Recreation Learn to Swim program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
