IRVINE, Calif., USA, August 10. BACK in April, David Mosko made some noise at the World Championships Trials when he claimed fourth place in the 200-meter butterfly. Evidently, that effort was merely a tuneup. Competing at the Speedo Junior Championships last night, Mosko earned top honors in the distance fly with a superb swim of 2:00.18. A 16-year-old, Mosko (Cincinnati Marlins) held off a challenge from Mark Dylla (Aces Swim Club), who clocked 2:02.15.<\/p>\n
Mosko, though, wasn\u2019t the only youngster producing fireworks, as Caitlin Iversen (Greenwood Tiger) dazzled in the 200 backstroke. Iversen earned her triumph with a swim of 2:14.69, a mark that would have placed second at the World Champs Trials. On the male side, the distance dorsal was taken by Cory Chitwood of the Northern Kentucky Clippers. Chitwood checked in at 2:03.48.<\/p>\n
In the 200 breaststroke, Heath Tameris (Cincinnati Marlins) pulled away during the third lap and prevailed among the boys with a time of 2:19.15. He was matched on the female side by Stephanie Gabert, who touched the wall in 2:33.01 while representing Aquazot. As for the 200 fly for the women, victory was notched by Circle City\u2019s Tanya Krisman (2:14.07).<\/p>\n
Popping a performance of 56.77, Katherine Raatz of the Arizona Desert Fox won the girls\u2019 100 freestyle, finishing just ahead of Tampa Bay\u2019s Chelsea Nauta (57.00). For the guys, Peter Jameson (WaveNation) bested the opposition with a time of 52.15.
