HELEN Silver added her name to the list of first-time champions at the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, California, when the Cal Aquatics ace came roaring from behind on the second 50 to touch in 1:02.64 \u2013 the only swimmer to break 1:03 in the 100-meter backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>A junior-to-be at the University of California, Silver split 30.68 at the 50, trailing only Tucson Ford\u2019s Marshi Smith, who turned at 30.52.  But Silver\u2019s 31.96 for the second 50 was simply too much for the rest of the field as Silver fashioned a very convincing triumph.<\/p>\n<p>Margo McCawley was a surprise second in 1:03.30, while Smith fell to third in 1:03.38.
