IRVINE, Calif., August 4. IN one day, in the space of just nine hours Leah Retrum of Donner Swim Club in Indiana, vaulted herself from the category of \u201cMaybe, Someday,\u201d to \u201cI Have Arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n

In this morning\u2019s prelims she knocked several seconds off her PR to qualify first in 2:12.03. Tonight, she took a place among the world\u2019s elite with a superbly swum 2:11.00. <\/p>\n

Taking the lead just after the first turn, she touched at the halfway mark in 1:04.60, ahead of Helen Silver (1:05.04) and Jamie Reid (1:05.46). From then on it was all Leah as she added more than a second to her lead on the third 50 then coasted home for the victory.<\/p>\n

Fifteen year-old Teresa Crippen of Germantown Academy dropped her best another two seconds to finish second in 2:13.38 with the fast-improving Silver of Cal Aquatics third in 2:13.70.<\/p>\n
