National Long Course Championships at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Jack Groselle, Drury Gallagher, Lois Nochman and Gail Roper led the way with two world marks apiece on Day Two of the five-day meet.

Gallagher (EMP), 60, set men's 60-64 records in the 400m individaul medley, where his 6:02.79 carved more than two seconds off Graham Johnston's old mark, and in the 100m breaststroke, where his 1:19.82 erased Briton Thomas Walker's 1996 standard of 1:20.56.

Groselle (OHIO) celebrated his move to the men's 45-49 division by blasting the world record in the 200m freestyle. His 2:01.54 shattered Tim Broderick's 1996 time of 2:03.71. Groselle notched his second world mark when he clocked 1:12.29, easing South Africa's Tim Shead (1:12.38) from the record book.

Michigan's Lois Nochman continued to wreak havoc in the women's 75-79 division, setting records in the 400 IM (8:59.25) and the 50 fly (47.86). Nochman's medley time carved 12 seconds off the old mark held by Maxine Merlino. Her sprint fly was six seconds faster than the record Canada's Katherine Kerr established in 1996.

Gail Roper (Rohnert Park) notched her two records in the women's 70-74 200m free (3:01.28) and 50m butterfly (41.45), eliminating two celebrated names from the record book. Clara Walker (3:04.56 in the 200 free) and June Krauser (43.62 in the 50 fly) were the former record-holders.

San Mateo Marlin Ray Taft announced his presence in the men's 80-84 division with a global mark in the 400 IM, his 8:05.14 knocking over five seconds from Aldo Da Rosa's record. The women's 85-89 WR in the 400 IM fell to Walnut Creek's Jean Durston in 11:11.16. The old record, 11:21.06, was set by Jewel Cooke two years ago.

Joe Rhyne, the denizen of the men's 40-44 distance events, added the 200 free to the collection he began yesterday with his WR in the 800. The North Carolinan shaved 9-hundredths of a second off Hess Yntema's 1995 mark of 2:01.16 with his 2:01.07.

Suzanne Heim-Bowen, who already owned the 400, 800 and 1500m freestyle world marks for women 40-44, added the 200 to her collection when she clocked 2:14.14. The old record, 2:14.97, was set by Laura Val five years ago.

The oldest woman competitor in Minneapolis, Julia Dolce, 90, clocked 5:19.36 for the 200 free, two seconds faster than the former mark set by Olympian Aileen Soule in 1996.

Badger Dolphins' Tom Redig, 38, broke Mike Bottom's world mark in the 50m butterfly for men 35-39 with his time of 25.89, four-hundredths faster than Bottom swam in 1993. For several years, Bottom held the 50m fly world mark simultaneously in three age groups: 25-29, 30-34 and 35-39.

Yesterday, Tracie Moll (Goldcoast Masters) broke her own record in the 100m fly for women 35-39 with her 1:03.79. Today she blitzed her own record in the 50 fly with her 28.32, almost half a second faster than she swam last year.

The women's 100m breaststroke saw two new world marks. Caroline Krattli (San Diego), who yesterday set the 200 mark for women 35-39, picked up the 100 when she touched in 1:17.11. The old mark, set by Lisa Wetzel-Osborne nine years ago, was 1:17.44. In the 55-59 age group, Canada's Bonnie Pronk lowered Germany's Hannelore Roese's record of 1:29.26 to 1:29.11.

The final world record came in the men's 200m medley relay. The Badger Dolphins' 160+ medley relay team of Curt LaCount, David Holland, Tom Redig and Jim Sorensen stroked to a 1:50.88 time, smashing Baylor/Lone Star's record of 1:53.79. The Minnesota "A" team also bettered the old mark with its 1:53.31.

The eight additional American records set were:

Men's 80-84 50 m. butterfly. Ray Taft (SMMM) 0:42.89 old record – Paul Krup, 48.70.

Men's 75-79 100 m. breaststroke. Barton Greenberg (OMAH) 1:38.11 old record – Aldo Da Rosa, 1:39.62

Men 80-84 100 m. breaststroke. Max Von Isser (ARIZ) 1:45.99 old record – Aldo Da Rosa, 1:47.10

Women's 30-34 100 m. breaststroke. Wenke Hansen (OSB) 1:14.53 old record – Beth Scheimann, 1:18.80

Women's 40-44 100 m. breaststroke. Melinda Mann (WMAC) 1:21.23 old record – Deb Walker, 1:21.73

Women's 75-79 100 m. breaststroke. Regan Kenner (FMM) 2:04.25 old record – Betty Christian, 2:04.89

Men's 320+ 200 m. med. relay. Florida Maveric Masters 3:13.89 (Dave Malbrough, E.
