MONTREAL, Canada, July 25. THE final of the women\u2019s 100 butterfly was an Australian party, as Jessicah Schipper and Lisbeth Lenton sped to the gold and silver medals behind spectacular times. Schipper, who had the top time after the prelims and semifinals, cooked up a 57.23 performance, enough to hold off Lenton (57.37). Schipper became the third-fastest performer in history.<\/p>\n
Schipper and Lenton made it a two-woman race from the start, as they built a comfortable lead from the rest of the field. While Schipper will contest the 200 fly later in the week, Lenton already earned a medal at the competition, as she was a member of the Australian gold-medal effort in Sunday night\u2019s final of the 400 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
Poland\u2019s Otylia Jedrzejczak, the Olympic silver medalist, took home bronze, as she touched the wall with a mark of 58.57. Jedrzejczak was the top qualifier heading into the World Champs and will be expected to win the 200 fly when she steps on the blocks. The United States claimed fourth and fifth as Rachel Komisarz and Mary DeScenza delivered times of 58.80 and 58.87, respectively.
