MOTHER Nature interrupted the festivities for a brief period, but not long enough to keep China\u2019s Guo Jingjing from maintaining her global dominance on the diving board. Shaking off a weather delay, Guo captured her third consecutive world title on the three-meter springboard on Friday with a score of 645.54.<\/p>\n
The Olympic champion on the three-meter board, Guo finished ahead of Wu Min Zia, her Chinese teammate, and Italy\u2019s Tania Cagnotto. Wu produced a score of 619.05 and Cagnotto checked in with a mark of 591.27. During the preliminaries of the event, there was a delay when American Chelsea Davis struck the board with her nose and scraped her head. Davis was recovering Friday night.<\/p>\n
Collecting her third medal of the week and second of the gold variety, the Netherlands\u2019 Edith Van Dijk won the women\u2019s 25K open-water swim. Van Dijk edged Germany\u2019s Britta Kamrau by less than a second, an astonishing finish considering the event took five-plus hours to negotiate. Laura La Piana won bronze for Italy.
