MONTREAL, Canada, July 19. BLYTHE Hartley is back on top of the diving world. The world champion on the one-meter springboard in 2001, Hartley dropped to the bronze medal in 2003. Now, she has returned to the highest step on the medal podium, thanks to a gold-medal performance on Monday at the World Championships in Montreal.<\/p>\n

Scoring 325.65 points, the University of Southern California standout easily defeated China\u2019s Wu Min Xia (299.80) and Germany\u2019s Heike Fischer (299.46). At last summer\u2019s Olympic Games in Athens, Wu was the silver medalist. Hartley is coming off a collegiate season in which she won an NCAA title in the three-meter event and finished second in the one-meter competition.<\/p>\n

From Vancouver, Hartley built a sizable lead throughout the evening and held a 20-point advantage heading into her final dive. Ultimately, Hartley outscored her nearest challengers on the final entry to complete her 25-plus point triumph.
