AUBURN, Ala., USA, July 17. THERE’S been no stopping Elaine Breeden and Ricky Berens at the Speedo Southern Sectionals, held on the campus of Auburn University. On Saturday night, the teenage sensations blazed impressive times en route to victories in the 100-meter butterfly at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n

The victor in the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley in earlier action, Breeden (Wildcat Aquatics) blistered a mark of 59.48 in the 100 fly, an effort fast enough to hold off the 59.82 performance of Demerae Christianson. As for Berens (Mecklenburg Aquatic Club), he stopped the clock in 54.13, ahead of the 54.44 swim of Peter Verhoef. During the first two days of the meet, Berens secured first-place showings in the 200 fly and 200 freestyle.<\/p>\n

In other action, Elizabeth Hill added to her 200 free win with a decision in the 400 free. Hill checked in with a 4:16.90 effort and was complemented on the male side by Daniel Slocki, who won the 400 free in 3:56.90. Charlie Houchin picked up second place in 3:57.98. Lindsey Ertter (1:11.05) and Andrew Bree (1:04.65) notched wins in the 100 breaststroke.<\/p>\n
