ANN ARBOR, Mich., USA, July 10. WHEN the World Championships end on the final day of this month, the United States squad will bolt to California for the Duel in the Pool, the head-to-head matchup between the U.S. and Australia at the William Woollett Aquatic Center. After that competition, many of the premier American stars will move into break mode.<\/p>\n
Michael Phelps, though, will be taking a different plan of attack. The eight-time Olympic medalist has decided to compete at the United States Summer Nationals from Aug. 3-7. That event will also be held at the Woollett Aquatic Center. Phelps, training with Club Wolverine, has 25 national championships to his credit, including five earlier this year from the World Champs Trials.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not going to take a break,\u201d Phelps recently told the Orange County Register<\/i>. \u201cI\u2019m just going to keep on going. It\u2019s another meet to swim and see where (I\u2019m at).\u201d<\/p>\n
Phelps is prepared to embrace a daunting schedule at the World Champs, slated to run from July 24-31 in Montreal. Phelps will contest the 100, 200 and 400 freestyle events, the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly on an individual basis. He\u2019s also expected to contest three relays. Meetings with Aussie ace Grant Hackett are on the docket for the 200 and 400 free races.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
