\nUSA GRABS THREE GOLDS ON FINAL NIGHT OF PAN AMERICAN GAMES <\/p>\n
The Americans grabbed seven more medals, including three golds, and broke their sixth meet record on the final night of swimming competition at the Pan American Games. Team USA finished with the most medals at 37, followed by Canada with 32. The Americans won 10 gold (six in meet record time), 19 silver and eight bronze medals to the Canadians 13 gold, five silver and 14 bronze. <\/p>\n
Denali Knapp (Davis, Calif.) and Beth Botsford (Timonium, Md.) swept the top two spots in the 200m backstroke, with Knapp breaking the meet record with a personal best time of 2:12.48. Tammie Spatz (Saginaw, Mich.) won gold in the 50m free in 25.50, which makes her the fifth-fastest American and the 23rd-fastest woman ever in this event. Tim Siciliano (San Marcos, Calif.) also won an individual gold, beating the field by almost seven seconds to win the 1500m free in a personal best time of 15:14.94. <\/p>\n
Also winning medals on the night were Joe Montague (Houston, Texas) in the 200m individual medley (2:03.08, silver), Kalyn Keller (Phoenix, Ariz.) in the 200m fly (2:14.60, bronze) and the men’s 400m medley relay of Matt Allen (Bellingham, Wash.), Ed Moses (Burke, Va.), Jarod Schroeder (Morrison, Ill.) and Scott Tucker (Largo, Fla.) who went 3:40.57 to win silver. Brazil won the gold in a meet record time of 3:40.27. <\/p>\n
Twenty-eight of the U.S. Pan American Games medalists will now head to Minneapolis, Minn., for the USA Swimming’s National Championships, which began on Aug. 6 and continue through Aug. 10.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
