VANCOUVER, Canada, June 19. BRENT Hayden has this record-breaking thing down to a science. A day after lowering the meet standard in the 200 freestyle, Hayden established a competition mark in the 50 free on Saturday at the Mel Zajac International Swim Meet. The competition is being held in Vancouver and features the Canadian National Team.<\/p>\n
Touching the wall in 22.96, Hayden easily fought off Matt Rose, the Canadian record-holder who checked in with a time of 23.47. Hayden\u2019s swim erased the 25-year-old meet record of Joe Bottom, who blasted a 23.05 effort in 1980. Yannick Lupien secured a third-place finish as he covered the one-lap sprint in 23.58.<\/p>\n
Ariana Kukors continued to highlight the action on the women\u2019s side, as she added a triumph in the 200 individual medley. Kukors opened the event with victories in the 200 backstroke and 400 individual medley on Friday. During her 200 I.M. decision, Kukors stopped the clock in 2:17.24, well ahead of the 2:20.27 of Liz Warden. The men\u2019s 200 I.M. resulted in a win by Bradley Ally (2:03.58).<\/p>\n
Brittany Reimer, winner of the 1,500 freestyle, added the 400 title to her collection when she prevailed in 4:15.86. Meanwhile, the 400 free for the men was claimed by Andrew Hurd in 3:56.22. In the 100 butterfly events, Mike Mintenko (54.69) and Mackenzie Downing (1:01.41) notched first-place performances. <\/p>\n
Other decisions were picked up by Erin Gammel in the women\u2019s 50 back (29.83), Riley Janes in the men\u2019s 50 back (26.75), Kathleen Stoody in the women\u2019s 200 breaststroke (2:35.46) and Mike Brown in the men\u2019s 200 breast (2:17.85).
