INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., June 13. NATALIE Coughlin saved the best performance of the weekend for last at the FINIS Counsilman Classic on Sunday night. Competing in the last female event on the schedule, Coughlin blasted the meet record in the 100 freestyle, as her performance of 54.66 produced a two-plus second victory.<\/p>\n
A five-time medalist at last summer\u2019s Olympics in Athens, Coughlin\u2019s time is the sixth-fastest in the world this year and easily bettered the second-place effort of Emily Silver (57.10). Coughlin\u2019s time dipped under the meet record of 55.80, set last year by Martina Moravcova. On Saturday, Coughlin set a meet standard in the 100 backstroke.<\/p>\n
Michael Phelps completed his weekend with two more victories, making the Club Wolverine sensation 6-for-6 over the past three days. Phelps started the day with a meet-record swim of 2:00.65 in the 200 individual medley and closed the competition with a winning time of 50.10 in the 100 freestyle. Phelps will swim both races at next month\u2019s World Championships in Montreal. Over the weekend, he also won the 200 and 400 freestyles and both butterfly events.<\/p>\n
Rachel Komisarz won her third event of the weekend when she clocked 8:44.01 in the 800 freestyle. That decision complemented triumphs in the 100 butterfly and 400 freestyle. Meanwhile, Robert Margalis won the 1,500 freestyle in a meet-record time of 15:36.48.<\/p>\n
Other winners in the event held at the Indiana University Natatorium were Elaine Breeden in the women\u2019s 200 I.M. (2:18.61), Helen Silver in the women\u2019s 200 backstroke (2:16.55) and Chris DeJong in the men\u2019s 200 back (1:59.71).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
