BLOOMINGTON, Indiana, May 29. DOUBLE duty is back on the docket for Ray Looze. The coach of the Indiana University men\u2019s program for the past three years, Looze added the responsibilities of women\u2019s coach on Friday. Looze takes control for Dorsey Tierney, who recently became the co-women\u2019s coach at Auburn.<\/p>\n
Last season, Looze guided the Indiana men to a second-place showing at the Big Ten Conference Championships and to 16th place at the NCAA Championships. In inheriting the women\u2019s program, he takes the reins of a unit that finished ninth at the NCAA Championships in 2005. The women own five consecutive top-three finishes at the Big Ten Championships.<\/p>\n
"Ray has done an outstanding job in his three years with our men's program, and we are confident that he will build upon the recent success that both teams have had," said Athletic Director Rick Greenspan. "In a combined setting, Ray has a plan to maximize the efficiency of individualized training. This translates to even better team-wide success. Ray is extremely enthusiastic about this opportunity, and he will bring a lot of energy to both programs." <\/p>\n
Looze has experience with double duty, as he was the men\u2019s and women\u2019s coach at the University of Pacific for four years, prior to his move to Indiana.<\/p>\n
"This is a great opportunity for Indiana swimming and diving to take the next step in the sports\u2019 progress toward elite status," Looze said.
