SOUTH BEND, Ind., May 13. IN its search for a new women\u2019s swimming coach, Notre Dame has turned to one of its own. Carrie Nixon, who enjoyed a sterling collegiate career with the Irish, has been tabbed to guide the women\u2019s program, succeeding Bailey Weathers. <\/p>\n
Nixon was an assistant at Notre Dame last season and became a candidate for the head-coaching position when Weathers resigned March 29. Nixon, who graduated from the school in 2002, is the fourth coach in program history.<\/p>\n
During her competitive days, Nixon won 18 Big East Conference championships and was a 12-time All-American. She is the first female graduate from Notre Dame to be named head coach of one of the school\u2019s athletic programs. With the program for six years, as an athlete and assistant coach, Nixon has been part of six Big East Conference championship teams.<\/p>\n
