CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., May 5. THE University of Virginia announced its season-ending awards at the Cavaliers\u2019 team banquet, and Luke Anderson and Katie Gordon walked away with the men\u2019s and women\u2019s MVP nods, respectively.<\/p>\n
Anderson earned MVP honors for the second time in his career, thanks to victories in the 100 and 200 freestyle events at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. Anderson also took second in the 50 free at the ACC Champs and was named the MVP of the competition. His career featured nine individual ACC championships and 13 relay titles.<\/p>\n
Gordon earned her MVP selection after advancing to finals in three events at the ACC Champs. Aside from placing fourth in the 400 individual medley, Gordon was sixth in the 500 free and seventh in the 200 backstroke. She also helped the Cavaliers to second place in the 800 free relay.<\/p>\n
Rookie of the Year honors went to Patrick Mellors and Jess Lewis, both of whom competed scholastically in Pennsylvania. Mellors was the ACC Rookie of the Year after winning conference championships in the 200 and 400 individual medley events. At the NCAA Champs, Mellors was fifth in the 400 I.M. and 10th in the 200 I.M.<\/p>\n
As for Lewis, the freshman was third at the ACC Champs in the 200 free and placed sixth in the 100 free. She also contributed to a quartet of relays and helped Virginia to second place in the 200 and 800 free relays.<\/p>\n
The Virginia men captured their seventh straight ACC title and ninth overall while the women finished second at the ACC Championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
