YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN, April 26. A quartet of world records were shattered over the weekend during the Second Annual GTAC Disability Open, held at Eastern Michigan University. Leading the way was Jessica Long, who took down a pair of global standards in the S8 women\u2019s classification.<\/p>\n
A triple-gold medalist from last summer\u2019s Paralympic Games in Athens, Long claimed a world record in the 200-meter freestyle (2:33.35) and also bettered the former world record in the 1,500 free, thanks to a time of 22:16.31. The time took more than 30 seconds off the old standard.<\/p>\n
A Paralympic gold medalist in Sydney and Athens, Travis Mohr secured his world record in the SB6 men\u2019s classification. Mohr popped an effort of 3:32.80 in the 200 breaststroke. The other world record from the weekend was notched by Roy Perkins, who clocked 1:36.99 in the S5 men\u2019s 100 butterfly.<\/p>\n
In addition to Long and Mohr, other members of the United States Paralympics Elite and National Team were in action, including Cody Bureau. Competing in the SB9 men\u2019s division, Bureau established an American record in the 50 breaststroke and American and Pan-American marks in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n
In the women\u2019s S8 division, Toni Davis set American records in the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke and added a Pan-Am record in the 50 back. Meanwhile, Michael DeMarco produced five American records in the S3 men\u2019s group, as he lowered standards in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles, the 50 back and the 150 individual medley.<\/p>\n
