BOCA DEL RIO, Mexico, April 25. TWO is always better than one. At least that\u2019s what the Jacobo brothers proved last week during the Mexican National Championships. The siblings, who compete for Texas A&M, combined to win each of the breaststroke races.<\/p>\n
Alfredo Jacobo cruised to victories in the 50 and 100 breast events, as he clocked times of 29.32 and 1:03.48, respectively. Those efforts were followed by second-place finishes from his brother. As for the 200 breast, Alejandro prevailed with a time of 2:21.28. Rafael Garcia was second in 2:23.49, followed by Alfredo Jacobo in 2:24.08.<\/p>\n
The most prominent swim of the weekend was the 2:00.78 turned in by Juan Veloz in the 200 butterfly. A semifinalist in the event at last summer\u2019s Olympic Games in Athens, Veloz touched the wall in 2:00.78, quicker than the 2:02.03 of Cesar Uribe. Uribe left the competition with wins in the 100 fly (54.79) and the 100 backstroke.
