AUBURN, Ala., April 21. DAVID Marsh is staying at Auburn University. That much was officially determined Thursday when Athletic Director Jay Jacobs announced that Marsh and the university had agreed to terms on a career contract. The contract spans eight years and will carry Marsh to the 25-year mark at Auburn.<\/p>\n
During the past week, Marsh was rumored as a potential fit for the Stanford University women\u2019s job, which has opened following the retirement announcement of Richard Quick. Marsh reportedly interviewed for the position on The Farm last week. The final terms of Marsh\u2019s new contract at Auburn are expected to be completed next week.<\/p>\n
"We are excited that David will finish his coaching career at Auburn," Jacobs said. "David is an outstanding coach and is a valuable asset to the Auburn family. He has created the premier swimming and diving program in the country by producing outstanding student-athletes both in the pool and in the classroom."<\/p>\n
Marsh has enjoyed immense success at Auburn, evidenced in the eight NCAA championships he has corralled. He has led the men to five titles, including the past three, and directed the women\u2019s program to a three-peat from 2002-04. Marsh is the only coach to win titles on both the male and female side in the same year, accomplishing the feat in 2003 and 2004.<\/p>\n
"I'm excited to agree to the career contract and look forward to continuing to work with high caliber student-athletes and staff at Auburn," said Marsh. "My family and I have always cherished living in Auburn and look forward to many more years in the community."<\/p>\n
In 15 seasons, 205 swimmers (101 men, 104 women) have been chosen to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and 24 have been named Academic All-Americans. Marsh has also coach 22 Olympians during his Auburn tenure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
