ORLANDO, Fla., March 26. IF this week was any indication, Alex Righi and Bradley Ally could have bright futures on the international scene. That much was proven at the NCSA Junior Nationals, which concluded Saturday night in Orlando.<\/p>\n
Righi (Arizona Desert Fox) capped his week with two more triumphs, taking top honors in the 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle. As for Ally (Pine Crest), he punctuated his competition with a decisive win in the 200 individual medley. Both swimmers finished with five individual titles.<\/p>\n
After winning the 50 back in 22.12, more than a second clear of Fairport\u2019s Jeff Wood (23.16), Righi uncorked a 20.09 clocking in taking the 50 free. Ann Arbor\u2019s Bryan Vessels finished second, but was more than a half-second back in 20.64. Four other swimmers also cracked the 21-second barrier.<\/p>\n
Ally completed the individual medley double with a win in the 200 distance, the event in which he set a national scholastic record. In claiming the win in the 200 I.M., Ally touched the wall in 1:48.16, four seconds ahead of Sven Hinrichsen (1:52.17) of Curl-Burke.<\/p>\n
Curl-Burke\u2019s Liz Kemp and North Coast\u2019s Blake Hayter added more championships to their stashes, as each prevailed in a freestyle race. Kemp, who already won the 100 free, added the 50 free to her collection as she scorched a triumphant time of 23.14, ahead of Sarah Sargent (Excel Aquatics) in 23.31. For Hayter, she covered the 1,650 free in 16:25.22, giving her victories in the 200, 500 and mile distances.<\/p>\n
In the female 200 I.M., Andrea Boritzke (Lake Country) picked up a narrow decision over Ashley Evans of Berkeley Aquatics. Boritzke touched in 2:01.95 while Evans stopped the clock in 2:02.05.
