\nPALMA DE MALLORCA, Spain – The U.S. Swim Team grabbed six more medals, including three golds, at the World University Games. The American swimmers now have 27 medals (14 gold) with one more day to go. <\/p>\n
Tom Hannan (Baltimore, Md.) won the 200m individual medley from lane 1 in the night’s first race. He took the lead in the second leg and never relinquished it, posting a personal best time of 2:04.42. Teammate Ryan Lusk (Hilton Head, S.C.) was seventh in the same final with a time of 2:07.40. <\/p>\n
The U.S. went one-two in two events, as Beau Wiebel (Hagerstown, Md.) earned gold and Tate Blahnik (Auinot, N.Y.) claimed silver in the 200m back with times of 2:01.52 and 2:01.70, a personal best for Wiebel. Cara Lane (Charlotte, N.C.) and Julie Varozza (Los Gatos, Calif.) took the top two spots in the 1500m free at 16:32.04 and 16:33.92, personal bests for both. It was the second gold for both Wiebel and Lane. <\/p>\n
The U.S. team of Sarabeth Schweitzer (Maryville, Calif.), Amy Balcerzak (Sharon, Pa.), Gina Panighetti (Chico, Calif.) and Courtney Allen (Monument, Colo.) captured silver in the 400m medley relay with a time of 4:11.82 to round out the night’s medal count.
