HALFWAY home to a PAC-10 Conference title for the Stanford Cardinal. Through two days of the high-profile event, the 23-time defending champion holds a 29.5-point lead over California.<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinal enters the third day of action with 318.5 points, a total fueled by a dominating outing in the 500 freestyle. In the event won by Southern California\u2019s Ous Mellouli (4:14.66), Stanford took second through fifth behind the quartet of Mike McLean, Shaun Phillips, Andy Grant and Danny Beal.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford kept bringing the pressure in the 200 individual medley, where it benefited from a victory by Tobias Oriwol (1:45.27). Cal\u2019s John Dorr was second (1:45.32), but the Cardinal also placed third (Hongzhe Sun), fifth (Gary Marshall) and seventh (Mark Stephens).<\/p>\n<p>While Stanford controlled the first two events of the session, Cal commanded the final two events. Duje Draganja (19.22) led the Golden Bears with a win in the 50 free, holding off Ben Wildman-Tobriner (19.23).<\/p>\n<p>The Bears, known for their sprinting skills, also took third, fourth and fifth in the 50 free, thanks to Milorad Cavic, Rolandas Gimbutis and Jonas Tilly. Cal punctuated the night with a burning time of 1:16.77 in the 200 free relay, turned in by the foursome that placed in the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p>In the team race, Cal has 289 points, Southern California sits third with 196 points and Arizona is in fourth with 162 points.
