SEEKING a 24th consecutive title, Stanford won both relays on the opening night of the PAC-10 Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Cardinal racked up 80 points to take an early advantage over California and the University of Arizona, each with 66 points. Southern California sits in fourth with 60 points, followed by Washington (56) and Arizona State (26).

Stanford started the meet in stylish fashion, as it set a conference record in the 200 medley relay. The Cardinal foursome of Jayme Cramer, Rick Eddy, Matt McDonald and Ben Wildman-Tobriner produced a time of 1:24.82. The former mark of 1:25.16 was set by Cal last year.

The Golden Bears were second in 1:25.87 behind the quartet of Milorad Cavic, Caleb Rowe, Duje Draganja and Jonas Tilly. Arizona finished third and USC was fourth.

In the 800 freestyle relay, Stanford posted an easy win over Arizona and Cal. The squad of Danny Beal, Andy Grant, Shaun Phillips and Cramer was clocked in 6:18.71. Cramer anchored the Cardinal home with a split of 1:33.72.

En route to second place, Arizona touched the wall in 6:23.91. The Wildcats relied on the grouping of Lyndon Ferns, Tyler DeBerry, Adam Ritter and Simon Burnett. Burnett anchored in 1:34.44, well off his NCAA 200 free record time of 1:32.22.

Day One Results

Event 1 Men 200 Yard Medley Relay
===============================================================================
Pac 10: * 1:25.16 2004 CAL, CAL
Lim, Rowe, Cavic, Draganja
Pac 10 Meet: * 1:25.16 3/3/2004 CAL, CAL
Lim, Rowe, Cavic, Draganja
School Finals Points
===============================================================================
1 Stanford University 'A' 1:24.82* 40
1) Cramer, Jayme SR 2) Eddy, Rick
3) McDonald, Matt SR 4) Wildman-Tobriner, Ben
21.45 45.56 (24.11) 1:06.15 (20.59) 1:24.82 (18.67)
2 Univ of California Berkeley 'A' 1:25.87 34
1) Cavic, Milorad 2) Rowe, Caleb SR
3) Draganja, Duje SR 4) Tilly, Jonas
21.64 45.87 (24.23) 1:06.88 (21.01) 1:25.87 (18.99)
3 University of Arizona 'A' 1:26.08 32
1) Zandberg, Gerhard 2) Rollins, Dave
3) Ferns, Lyndon 4) Burnett, Simon
21.99 46.15 (24.16) 1:06.81 (20.66) 1:26.08 (19.27)
4 Univ of Southern California 'A' 1:26.98 30
1) Bodrogi, Viktor 2) Flaskay, Mihaly
3) Masson, Sam 4) Sussex, Sean
22.42 46.65 (24.23) 1:07.53 (20.88) 1:26.98 (19.45)
5 University of Washington 'A' 1:30.83 28
1) Wicklund, Robert FR 2) Penoyar, Patrick FR
3) Osborne, Jared SO 4) Barbic, Bruno FR
23.77 51.42 (27.65) 1:30.83 (39.41)
— University of Arizona 'B' X1:27.64
1) Thoman, Nick 2) Barnes, Ivan
3) Subirats, Albert 4) Jeffers, Byron SR
22.50 46.79 (24.29) 1:07.79 (21.00) 1:27.64 (19.85)
— University of Arizona 'C' X1:30.78
1) Rothman, Nate 2) Stevens, Nate SR
3) Maxwell, Darren 4) Persson, Jonas
23.32 48.70 (25.38) 1:10.78 (22.08) 1:30.78 (20.00)
— University of Washington 'B' X1:32.74
1) Brugh, Taylor FR 2) Kastl, Ryan JR
3) Lundgaard, Bret FR 4) Divald, Lorant SR
23.73 49.69 (25.96) 1:11.60 (21.91) 1:32.74 (21.14)
— Univ of Southern California 'B' X1:33.67
1) Hall, Conner 2) Youm, Joon
3) Gosper, Richard 4) Wilson, Tyler
25.93 51.67 (25.74) 1:13.36 (21.69) 1:33.67 (20.31)
— University of Arizona 'D' X1:34.21
1) Taylor, Denton 2) Kiley, Ryan
3) Stinson, Bob 4) Howard, Andrew
23.47 49.75 (26.28) 1:13.25 (23.50) 1:34.21 (20.96)
— University of Washington 'C' X1:36.43
1) Page, Tamon FR 2) Barclift, Cameron SR
3) McCallister, Hunter JR 4) Dowdy, Brenton FR
24.53 50.77 (26.24) 1:15.56 (24.79) 1:36.43 (20.87)
— Arizona State University 'A' DQ
1) Rahauser, Evan SR 2) Ward, Emerson SR
3) McDonald, Steve JR 4) Blusiewicz, AJ SR
23.68 48.55 (24.87) 1:10.01 (21.46) DQ (20.54)

Event 2 Men 800 Yard Freestyle Relay
===============================================================================
Pac 10: * 6:17.35 3/3/2002 USC, USC
Lee,Castro,Kerekjario,Keller
Pac 10 Meet: * 6:24.18 2004 STAN, STAN
S.
