MINNEAPOLIS, Minn, March 2. WITH the NCAA Division III Women\u2019s Championships just around the corner (March 10-12), some blazing times are guaranteed to come out of the competition in Holland, Michigan. How do we know? Here\u2019s the proof.<\/p>\n
During February, a quartet of Division III records were wiped from the books, including the former mark in the 50-yard freestyle. At the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, Carleton College\u2019s Marie Marsman produced a time of 22.78. That swim gave Marsman a trifecta of national records, as she already boasted the standards in the 100 and 200 freestyles.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Lindsey Payne (Williams College) notched a pair of breaststroke records while racing at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships. In breaking her own records, Payne touched the wall in 1:01.68 in the 100 breast and went 2:16.80 in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n
The fourth Division III record of the month was erased by Washington & Jefferson\u2019s Kaitlyn Orstein. A freshman who started the year at the University of Tennessee, Orstein won the 200 individual medley at the Presidents\u2019 Athletic Conference Championships. Orstein, who will push Payne in the 100 at NCAA Champs, was timed in the 200 I.M. in 2:03.58.<\/p>\n
