DURHAM, NH, February 11. THE University of New Hampshire women's swimming and diving team completed a perfect 9-0 season Saturday as they defeated the University of Maine, 173-112, per UNH reports. <\/p>\n
The Wildcats won in convincing fashion, taking 15 of the 16 events in the meet. Diver Shana Dege (Lockport, N.Y.) had a record-setting afternoon, as she finished first from both the 1-meter and 3-meter heights. Her score of 258.05 in the 1-meter dive broke a UNH record that has stood since 1977, and her score of 259.10 also broke the previous team record. <\/p>\n
Melissa Lague (Salem, N.H.) enjoyed Senior Day by winning both the 200 yard backstroke (2 minutes, 4.41 seconds) and the 100 back (57.53). <\/p>\n
Three other swimmers were double winners. Brittany Daly (Brightwaters, N.Y.) earned a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:25.13 and had the fastest time in the 500 free (5:16.56). Shannon Daly (Brightwaters, N.Y.) won the 200 free (1:54.50) and the 200 breaststroke by clocking in at 2:21.81. Catie McDonough (Denville, N.J.) took first-place in the 50 free (24.93) as well as in the 100 free (53.89). <\/p>\n
UNH swimmers also earned the fastest times in both relay events, as Lague teamed with Deanna Petchonka (Ridgefield, Conn.), Christine Tartaglia (Brewster, N.Y.) and Amanda Paul (Reston, Va.) to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.25. Lague and Paul then joined with McDonough and Shannon Daly to swim the 200 free relay in 1:40.68. Petchonka had an individual first-place win, as she swam the 100 butterfly in 58.76. Tartaglia also finished first individually, winning the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.77. <\/p>\n
Amy Roberts (Boxborough, Mass.) took home a first-place finish in the 200 fly by clocking in at 2:13.31. The undefeated Wildcats attempt to extend their winning streak into the post-season as they compete in the America East Championships at the University of Maine.
