RENO, NV, February 6. SOPHOMORES Leslie Christian and Taylor Emerson posted wins in the 1000 free and 100 fly, respectively, and the Green Wave relay teams emerged victorious in the 200 medley and 200 free relays as the Tulane University swimming and diving team split a double-dual meet at Lombardi Pool Saturday, per Green Wave sources. <\/p>\n
Tulane defeated San Jose State, 91-48 and fell to host Nevada, 82-58, in the final regular-season meet of the 2004-05 season.<\/p>\n
Christian won the 1000 with a mark of 10:31.70 while the quartet of Tiffany Brown, Linda McEachrane, Taylor Emerson and Katherine McCoy posted a mark of 1:47.92 in the 200 medley relay. The team of Devlyn Quinn, McCoy, Brown and McEachrane touched the wall with 1:37.69 on the clock as the Green Wave finished the year 16-3.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was another solid swim by a team that continues to improve as we approach the 2005 Conference USA Championships,\u201d head coach Daniella Irle said. \u201cI\u2019m pleased with our overall effort, and we will continue to work hard for in our quest for a conference title. Both San Jose State and Nevada are solid programs, and this meet will no doubt help us get better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Christian led a one-two finish for Tulane in the thousand as fellow sophomore Nicole Taheri was right behind with a time of 10:43.46. Christian also finished runner-up in the 500 free (5:12.56), as did fellow sophomores Taylor Emerson and McEachrane in the 200 fly (2:08.54) and 100 free (53.19), respectively.<\/p>\n
Freshman Samantha Berdine was the Green Wave\u2019s top finisher in the 200 free (1:56.52) and 200 IM (2:11.88), and Brown posted a third-place showing in the 100 (58.79) and 200 backstrokes (2:06.26). Senior Devlyn Quinn, meanwhile, paced the Tulane effort in the 50 free, finishing fourth with a mark of 24.97.<\/p>\n
In diving action, rookie Danielle Carrillo finished fourth in both the one- and three-meter springboards with scores of 245.40 and 253.70, respectively.<\/p>\n
Following the dual meet, Tulane will take a couple of weeks off in preparation for the 2005 Conference USA Championships, which are slated for Feb. 23-26 in Houston, Texas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
