THE Maryland women&#39;s swimming and diving team defeated ACC powerhouse North Carolina 175-125 Saturday afternoon, according to Terp reports.<\/p>\n<p>The win was the Terps&#39; 10th of the season and 21st in a row, dating back to the beginning of the 2003-04 season. The Terrapin men fell to the No. 19 Tar Heels 207-93. <\/p>\n<p>The 12th-ranked Terp women (10-0, 6-0 ACC) won 12 of 14 events over No. 15 North Carolina, led by seniors Megan Knepper (Williamsport, Md.), Chrissy Miller (Seaside Park, N.J.) and Marina Mulyayeva (Almaty, Kazakhstan), who each had two individual victories. Knepper swept the backstroke events with times of 56.18 in the 100 and 2:01.13 in the 200; Miller won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle with times of 51.24 and 1:50.62, respectively; and Mulyayeva won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.73) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.80).<\/p>\n<p>Other individual winners for the Terps included senior Elizabeth Lavell (Annapolis, Md.) in the 1,000-free (10:01.19), senior Cynthia Weir (Irwin, Pa.) in the 50-free (23.63), junior Krisztina Kovacs (Budapest, Hungary) in the 200-breast (2:17.96) and freshman Meghan Sackett (Cockeysville, Md.) in the 500-free (4:55.92). <\/p>\n<p>The Terps also swept the relays, with the 200-medley relay team of Knepper, Mulyayeva, sophomore Gigi deToll (Culpeper, Va.) and Weir winning with a time of 1:43.33, and the 400-free relay team of Knepper, Weir, Miller and freshman Maya Finkler (Rishon-le-zion, Israel) winning with a time of 3:26.37). <\/p>\n<p>On the men&#39;s side, the Terps (4-6, 1-5 ACC) picked up four individual victories, led by senior Erik Weinberg (Phoenix, Md.), who won the 100-back (49.99) and tied for first with senior Chris Brandenberger (Stony Brook, N.Y.) in the 200-back (1:49.16). The Terps&#39; other winners were freshman Stefan Geisen (Germany) in the 200-free (1:41.19) and freshman Martin Ott (Bayreuth, Germany) in the 200-IM (1:52.42).<\/p>\n<p>The Terps return to the pool next Saturday, Feb. 5, for the final dual meet of the season before the ACC Championships.
