TUSCALOOSA, AL, January 26. ALABAMA\u2019s Men and Women both enjoyed strong showings in the diving, sprint and breaststroke events against Florida Saturday in the Alabama Aquatic Center, but came up just short of the Gators in the end, according to home school reports.<\/p>\n
The Crimson Tide men, ranked 25th nationally, fell to No. 2 Florida 132-105 while women lost to the No. 3 ranked Lady Gators 131-106.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had a good day,\u201d Alabama head coach Eric McIlquham said. \u201cOur sprinters looked sharp out there, our divers did a real nice job and Vlad (Polyakov) had another strong showing. We\u2019re making good progress toward the championship season.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the men\u2019s side of the slate, sophomore Vlad Polyakov continued his domination of the breaststroke events, winning the 200 breaststroke by eight seconds, posting a 1:58.28.<\/p>\n
Junior Darren Erasmus and sophomore Apostolis Tsagkarakis took the top two spots in the 100 freestyle. Erasmus came away with the win, posting a season best 44.80 followed closely by Tsagkarakis\u2019 44.95. Tsagkarakis came back to win the 50 freestyle with a season best 20.29. <\/p>\n
Senior diver Stewart Smith won both the one and three-meter boards. He scored 326.32 points off the one-meter and 349.42 off the three-meter. <\/p>\n
On the women\u2019s side of the meet, senior Arlene Semeco won the 50 freestyle after touching with a career best 23.06. She came back later in the meet and won the 100 freestyle with a 51.56.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Melina Bassino and freshman Hannah Miluska went one-two in the 200 freestyle. Bassino posted a 1:52.37 while Miluska finished a second back at 1:53.37.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Jenna Hastreiter, junior Crystal Rasmussen and sophomore Karissa Tuthill went one-two-three respectively in the one-meter diving event. Hastreiter scored 268.87 points for the victory. Rasmussen and Hastreiter took the top two spots off the three-meter board. Rasmussen scored 280.72 points for the win.<\/p>\n
