BAKERSFIELD, Calif., January 15. A crowd of over 300 fans were treated to an entertaining day as USC\u2019s men\u2019s team beat the Cal. State Bakersfield RoadRunners 160\u2013128, while the Trojan women won, 158\u2013108, in dual meets at the CSUB Aquatic Center. <\/p>\n
Olympian and Bakersfield native Larsen Jensen, the American record-holder in the 1500m freestyle and Athens silver-medalist, won the only individual event he swam, touching first in the 500\u2013yard freestyle in 4:28.99. <\/p>\n
Fellow Olympian and Stockdale HS graduate Gabe Woodard swam in three events as an unattached swimmer. The former USC All\u2013America\u2019s times were not available from his events, the 50, 100 and 200 free. <\/p>\n
Double event winners Seth Dawson and Piotr Gegotek highlighted the day for the CSUB men. Dawson won the 100 backstroke and 200 IM in times of 52.23 and 1:53.58, respectively. Gegotek took the 200 free with a time of 1:41.29 and the 100 freestyle in 46.47. <\/p>\n
The \u2019Runner women were led by Loni Burton, who won three events on the day. Burton, the 2004 NCAA Div. II women\u2019s Swimmer of the Year, coasted to an easy victory in the 100 butterfly, touching first at 56.73. She also won the 50 and 100 free with times of 23.52 and 51.11, respectively. She's Div. II record-holder in the 100-200 frees and 100 fly, with 49.62-1:48+ and 54.03 clockings from last year's championships in Buffalo. <\/p>\n
She's also the daughter of US Olympian Mike Burton, the first man to win back-to-back 1500 meter frees at an Olympics (1968, '72) and first man under 16 minutes. Burton was also UCLA's first swimming Olympic gold-medalist and a multi-NCAA distance champ during his collegiate days in Westwood. <\/p>\n
