AFTER trailing No. 15 Northwestern by 36-points in the first half of double-dual meet competition, the No. 4 Arizona men\u2019s swimming and diving team posted a 176-165 victory over the Wildcats and an impressive 263-67 win over the Washington Huskies, per Arizona. <\/p>\n<p>The No. 4 Arizona women\u2019s swimming and diving team also posted two victories today as they defeated Northwestern 189.5 &#8211; 151.5 and Washington 200-138.<\/p>\n<p>\tThe men won the first-five events beginning with the 200y medley relay. A team of junior Dave Rollins, freshman Ivan Barnes, juniors Lyndon Ferns and Simon Burnett won the race with a time of 1:31.22.  Junior Tyler DeBerry won the 1650y freestyle with a time of 15:46.57 and freshman Matt Biel finished second (15:52.51).  A close race in the 200y freestyle resulted in Ferns winning the race, beating Northwestern\u2019s Matt Grevers with a time of 1:38.68.  Barnes won the 100y breaststroke (55.71) and senior Nate Stevens came in second (57.00).<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Nick Thoman finished first in the 200y butterfly with a time of 1:52.99 and was second in the 100y backstroke (50.13).  Ferns took second place in the 50y freestyle (20.13) and Burnett was third (20.90). Rollins finished first in the 200y individual medley with a time of 1:52.70 and Barnes was third (1:53.95). The 400y free relay team of Ferns, Burnett, senior Byron Jeffers and freshman Jonas Persson finished second with a time of 3:00.00.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am really happy for the men\u2019s team,\u201d said head swimming coach Frank Busch. \u201cYesterday was a wake-up call for them. They came here today and did what they needed to perform at the highest level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\tThe women\u2019s 200y medley relay team of junior Jenna Gresdal, junior Erin Sieper, sophomore Whitney Myers and freshman Lacey Nymeyer took first-place with a time of 1:43.16. Five women swam exhibition races with their final times beating the actual winner of the event beginning with senior Emily Mason who swam the 1000y freestyle in a time of 10:12.38, which beat the first-place time of 10:21.44. Nymeyer swam the 200y freestyle (1:50.71), Sieper swam the 100y breaststroke (1:03.76), junior Marshi Smith swam the 100y backstroke (56.67) and Mason also swam the 200y individual medley (2:05.02). Gresdal finished first in the 50y freestyle with a time of 23.21 and the 400y free relay team of Gresdal, Sieper, Myers and Nymeyer finished third (3:31.17).<\/p>\n<p>\tThe Wildcats will return to the pool on Jan. 21 to host the California Golden Bears at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center at 2 p.m. (MST).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TUCSON AZ, January 16.
