HOUSTON, TX, January 15. WITH just over one month separating Texas from its last meet, the fifth-ranked women\u2019s swimming team picked up right where it left off on Thursday, as it posted a 146-113 dual-meet win over Rice at Rice Pool, according to Longhorn reports.<\/p>\n
The Longhorns, who improved to 5-0 in dual meets on the year, competed in their first of two dual meets over a three-day span as UT travels to Georgia to take on the top-ranked Bulldogs at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga., on Saturday. <\/p>\n
Texas\u2019 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Hayley McGregory (Houston, Texas), sophomores Elizabeth Tinnon (Bowling, Green, Ky.) and Katie Robinson (Dillsboro, Ind.) and junior Kristin Siminski (Portage, Ind.), set the stage right off the bat, finishing three seconds ahead of runner-up Rice with a time of 1:45.00 to earn the win in the meet\u2019s first event. <\/p>\n
Following a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle from sophomore Kristina MacLeish (Dover, Del.), the Longhorns strung together three-straight wins with junior Elizabeth Wycliffe (Kingston, Ontario) capturing the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.56, senior Sarah Wanezek (Brookfield, Wis.) winning the 100-yard backstroke (55.75) and Tinnon, who won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.24.<\/p>\n
Two freshmen \u2013 Diana MacManus (Irvine, Calif.) and Macie Garrett (Nashville, Tenn.) \u2013 rounded out the individual event winners for Texas on Thursday. MacManus, who finished third behind Wanezek and Rice\u2019s Jane Keith in the 100-yard backstroke, won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.21, edging out Keith by just over five-hundredths of a second. Fellow freshman Lindsay Voyles (Austin, Texas) took third in 2:03.95.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Garrett posted the winning time of 4:26.98 in the 400-yard individual medley as teammates Wycliffe and sophomore Stephanie Anderson (Scottsdale, Ariz.) helped Texas seal up the top three finishes in that event, with times of 4:27.73 and 4:29.45, respectively. <\/p>\n
The Longhorns closed out the afternoon with a win in the 200-yard freestyle with Siminski, Robinson, junior Jennifer Robbins (Atlanta, Ga.) and senior Paige Nath (Wichita, Kan.) posting a time of 1:35.81.<\/p>\n
