AUBURN, AL, January 14, 2005. THE 200 butterfly was the only event Auburn did not claim the top place in as the second-ranked Tigers cruised to a 138-96 victory over the No. 7-ranked Longhorns of Texas on Thursday night at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center, per Auburn reports. <\/p>\n
With the victory, the Tigers run their streak of dual meet wins over the Longhorns to four and their overall streak to 30 consecutive dual meets.<\/p>\n
This was a good win for us," AU Coach David Marsh said. "We had some good swims and will look to build on this as Florida comes to town next weekend."<\/p>\n
BJ Jones was a double-winner for the Tigers, racing to his first NCAA time of the season in winning the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:36.02. He followed that with a win in the 500 freestyle, stopping the clock at 4:22.95.<\/p>\n
In the diving well sophomore Steven Segerlin established the school record on the 1-meter, posting a 365.47. Teammate Matt Bricker had held the record at 358.57, which he set in December of 2002. Segerlin also posted the top score on the 3-meter with a 327.67.<\/p>\n
"Steve did a great job in setting the school record on the 1-meter," AU Diving Coach Jeff Shaffer said. "This was a good meet for us. We could have done a little better on the three-meter, but it just gives us more to work on."<\/p>\n
In the swimming lanes it was all Tigers all night. Doug Van Wie, Sean Osborne Fred Bousquet and Ryan Wochomurka kicked the meet off with a time of 3:14.54 to win the 400 medley relay before Jones, Wochomurka, George Bovell and Bousquet slammed the door shut with a 2:57.42 to win the night's final event, the 400 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
Bousquet was also a winner in the 50 free, blasting the field with a 19.80 while teammate Scott Goodrich was second at 20.64. <\/p>\n
Wochomurka made it a clean sweep of the sprint freestyles as he clocked a 44.41 in the 100.<\/p>\n
Osborne made it three out of four of the 400 medley relay swimmers to win an individual event as he clocked a 2:01.52 in the 200 breaststroke while Van Wie added a second-place finish in the 200 back (1:46.24), coming in behind teammate Chad Barlow (1:45.49).<\/p>\n
Finishing out Auburn's winners was Daniel Slocki in the 1000 free (9:23.93) and Eric Shanteau in the 200 IM (1:49.29).<\/p>\n
The Tigers will swim in the home waters one last time during the dual meet season when AU hosts Florida on Friday, Jan. 21, at 5:45 p.m. at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center. It is senior day and the 12 Auburn seniors will be honored prior to the start of the meet. Admission is free.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
