Tuscaloosa, AL, January 6. AFTER more than a month off from competition, the Alabama Swimming and Diving teams return to action Friday against Georgia in Athens starting at noon, Alabama sources reported.<\/p>\n
Alabama\u2019s men, ranked 25th in the latest coaches\u2019 poll, face off against the No. 16 Bulldogs. On the women\u2019s side, the Tide faces off against the No. 1 ranked Lady Dogs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is another challenge for us,\u201d Alabama head coach Eric McIlquham. \u201cFacing Georgia on the road is going to help us prepare for the conference championships down the road. Georgia is a tough team, but there are certainly some spots where we match up very well with them on both sides of the meet.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alabama is on an accelerated schedule this year, due to the Southeastern Conference Championships coming a week earlier in the year. Alabama faces Georgia, Florida and South Carolina on successive weekends and then goes into the conference championships.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe got some great training in over the holidays and then we gave them a few days off for Christmas and now we\u2019re back at it,\u201d McIlquham said. \u201cWe don\u2019t have much time left before the championship season, so we have to make the most of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the women\u2019s breaststroke events, Alabama senior European Championships 200 M Breaststroke (sc) champion Anne Poleska will face off against fellow member of the German national team Sarah Poewe. Poleska is the SEC\u2019s top 200 breaststroker, while Poewe ranks first in the 100.<\/p>\n
Alabama\u2019s men dominate the breaststroke events on the conference level. Sophomores Vlad Polyakov and Hunor Mate\u2019 are ranked first and second respectively in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
