WEST Virginia University swimming and diving head coach Sergio Lopez announced last week the signing of three men and four women to national letters-of-intent during the early signing period, in a story by Scott Castleman released by the school. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very happy with the class that we have signed during early signing,\u201d said Lopez. \u201cThis class will provide great talent and depth in a lot of different areas, and will make us a much better team.&quot;<br \/>\nThe class is made up of swimmers from five different states including two from Florida and Illinois. <\/p>\n<p>For the women, Rachel Fedyck should help out immediately in the sprint-free events. The Morrison, Ill., native swam for Morrison High as well as her club team the Sterling Stingrays. Fedyck has recorded times of 23.75 seconds and 53.15 seconds in the 50-free and 100-free, respectively. She plans on majoring in veterinary medicine. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cRachel is a very well-rounded athlete, student and she\u2019s also an emerging force in the sprint freestyles\u201d said Lopez. \u201cShe really impressed our coaching staff with her drive and motivation during the recruiting process.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Lindsey Largo comes to the Mountaineers by way of Booker High and the Sarasota YMCA Sharks from Sarasota, Fla. Largo is an extremely versatile swimmer that competes in the 100-fly (59.01), 200-fly (2:04.95), 200-free (1:56.84), 500-free (4:57.96), 1000-free (10:23.24), 1650-free (17:17.56), and the 400-IM (4:32.85). She plans on majoring in education. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLindsey is a terrific person who will help us immediately in many key areas,\u201d said Lopez. \u201cShe has improved rapidly the last two years, and we\u2019re excited to work with her for the next four years.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Natalie Lautzenheiser should give the Mountaineers help in three different strokes. The Berne, Ind., native competed for South Adams High and for Fort Wayne Aquatics. Lautzenheiser has swum the 100-fly (57.46), 200-fly (2:05.16) and the 100-free (53.67). She plans on majoring in business.<br \/>\n\u201cNatalie will have an impact right away at the Big East level and she has the talent to swim very well at the NCAA level,\u201d said Lopez.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the women\u2019s recruiting class is Satellite Beach, Fla., native Taylor Stallings. Stallings swam for Satellite High and Space Coast Swimming, competing in the 50-free (24.43), 100-free (52.63), 200-free (1:51.98), 100-back (57.16), 200-back (2:04.85), 100-fly (57.19), 200-IM (2:07.09) and the 400-IM (4:25.52). She plans on majoring in biology and chemistry. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaylor really made an impression on our coaching staff with her personality and sense of humor, as well as her talent as a swimmer,\u201d said Lopez. \u201cShe is one of the most versatile swimmers I have recruited, and she\u2019ll help us immediately in numerous events.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>For the men\u2019s team Andrew Langenfield will look to help out in the various fly and free events. The Centralia, Ill., native competed at Centralia High as well as the Saluki Swim Club. Langenfield has recorded impressive times in the 50-free (20.53), 100-free (45.82), 100-fly (49.18) and the 200-fly (1:50.78). He plans on majoring in business management. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAndrew is one of the fastest and most versatile swimmers graduating this year,\u201d said Lopez. \u201cHe is the YMCA National record holder in the 100-butterfly as well as a member of the National Junior Team. Andrew has only been swimming for 3 years and has a bright future as an NCAA swimmer and as an international swimmer.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Hailing from Matthews, N.C., Casey Beckwith swam for Weddington High as well as Mecklenburg Aquatic Club. Beckwith recorded career bests in the 100-breast (57.70), 200-breast (2:04.26) and the 200-IM (1:58.03). He is planning on majoring in business. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCasey is a very talented breaststroker and most importantly a very good leader,\u201d said Lopez. \u201cI believe Casey will help this team at all levels, in and out of the pool, and that he will be a person we can build around for the future.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the WVU recruiting class is Garett Snook. The Saginaw, Mich., swam in high school for Heritage High as well as the Saginaw YMCA. Snook has recorded personal bests in the 100-breast (59.90), 200-breast (2:10.69) and the 200-IM (1:57.41). He plans on majoring in business.<br \/>\nLopez credits the successful recruiting period to his staff as well as his current swimmers. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last three months have been very busy for the coaching staff and the WVU swimmers and both have done an outstanding job with the recruits showing them our desire to be successful in the classroom and in the pool,\u201d said Lopez.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORGANTOWN, WV, December 26.
