VEDINBURGH, December 25. FREDERIC Vergnoux, one of France's top young coaches, is leaving his native land next month after being appointed the new head coach at the City of Edinburgh Swimming Club in Scotland, according to The Scotsman<\/i> and other sources in Scotland.<\/p>\n
Vergnoux, who is also a SwimInfo correspondent, replaces England\u2019s Tim Jones. <\/p>\n
For the past two years, Vergnoux has coached CS Clichy 92, France's top swim club. South Africa\u2019s Olympic relay gold medallist Darian Towsend is among the swimmers he has developed. He also served as national team coach of Belarus, guiding Alena Popchanka to a world title in the 200-meter freestyle as the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona and to two finals at the Olympic Games in Athens. <\/p>\n
The Edinburgh Swim Club sent three swimmers to the Athens Olympic Games — Ian Edmond, Gregor Tait and Kirsty Balfour.<\/p>\n
Vergnoux commented: "I am very pleased to be joining CES in January. I look forward to working with the local Edinburgh clubs and swimmers, the CES executive, the Area Institute Coach, the Institute Coach, and the Scottish Swimming Director of Performance.
