AUBURN, AL, December 1. CORY Lynn Gerlach and Whitney Wielgus have both signed on to join the Auburn diving team, Jeff Shaffer announced.<\/p>\n
"The addition of Cory Lynn and Whitney is going to give us a very strong potential to have two divers at the NCAA championships as freshman," Shaffer said. "Both Cory and Whitney will compliment and push one another. It will be great to have them coming in together as freshman. Cory brings a great deal of experience on the springboard while Whitney's success to date has been mostly on the platform, though she offers a very promising springboard. They both come from great programs and excellent backgrounds and will provide much depth on the women's side of our program for years to come."<\/p>\n
\tCory Lynn Gerlach will join Jeff Shaffer's diving team after spending time under the tutelage of Drew Johansen at the US Elite Diving Academy. A native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, she won the 3-meter title at the CAMO International Invitational in 2003. A silver-medalist at the 2003 Junior Nationals on the 3-meter, she has also claimed state titles during her diving career. An Upper Arlington High School product where she also trained under Kelly King, she chose Auburn over Georgia, Texas, Arizona State and Southern Cal.<\/p>\n
\t"I chose to sign with Auburn ultimately because it was the place I felt most at 'home'. The whole atmosphere of the swim\/dive team was so great, and the school as whole offered everything I felt a school needed to as far as athletics and academics go," Gerlach said.<\/p>\n
Whitney Wielgus heads to Jeff Shaffer's diving team from Sugar Land, Texas, and the Woodlands Dive Team where she trains under Ken Armstrong and Adam Soldati. A Senior Nationals qualifier in 2004, she placed eighth on the tower at the event while also garnering a silver medal on the 3-meter at the 2004 Winter West Nationals. The 2004 Summer West champion on the 10-meter, she chose Auburn over Georgia, Florida and Tennessee.<\/p>\n
