EVANSTON, Ill., November 21. NORTHWESTERN picked up where it left off on Saturday, making the most of its opportunities to win the TYR NU Invite Championship by amassing 1,113 points for the weekend-long event held in the Norris Aquatics Center. <\/p>\n

The Wildcats finished ahead of second-place Missouri (996.50), third-place Pittsburgh (903.50), fourth-place Southern Illinois (613.50) and fifth-place Kenyon College (340.50). <\/p>\n

After the preliminaries were held for Sunday's events, some of the 'Cats may not have placed as high as they would have liked, but they certainly made up for it in the finals. The entire team contributed as the Wildcats won eight of the first ten finals heats to put the championship out reach. <\/p>\n

Freshman Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga.\/Brookwood) had another record-setting day, and as a result earned Swimmer of the Meet honors. Hupman swam a stellar time of 50.12 in the 100 free final, which not only won the race, but also set a new pool record and gave Hupman one of the top ten times in the nation for the event. <\/p>\n

The 'Cats' 400 free relay team, led by Hupman, also made a serious run at the pool record. Lori Schwanhausser (Ridgefield, Conn.\/Ridgefield), Ashley Welnhofer (Wilmette, Ill. \/New Trier), and Michelle Oeser (Eliot, Maine\/Brown) teamed with Hupman to win the event in a time of 3:24.74, missing the pool record by just .14 seconds. <\/p>\n

After Amy Mueller (Tampa, Fla.\/Hillsborough) started the night for Northwestern by finishing a strong second in the 1650 free, Christy Olin (Glen Ellyn, Ill.\/Glenbard West) and Katie Braun (Edina, Minn.\/Edina) had a tight dual in the 50 fly finals, with Olin edging Braun for the win by .06 seconds. <\/p>\n

In the next event, the 200 back, three Wildcats swept the three finals heats. Ashley Welnhofer won the C final, Carrera Harris (Shafter, Calif.\/Shafter) won the B final, and Katie Paglini (Chicago, Ill.\/Latin School) won the A final. <\/p>\n

The 'Cats were back at it again in the very next event, the 100 free. Welnhofer won the C final, Schwanhausser won the B final, and Hupman's record setting time won the A final. <\/p>\n

Olin came back in her last event, the 200 fly, to win in dominating fashion. Braun once again came in second, giving Northwestern an extremely potent pair of fly swimmers. <\/p>\n

Some of the Wildcat women will next be in action at the U.S. Open on December 2nd, while the 'Cats next dual meet as a team will be against Tennessee on January 8th at the Norris Aquatics Center. <\/p>\n
