THE Australian Institute of Sport announced today that swimming coaches Shannon Rollason and Vince Raleigh have been appointed as senior coaches with the AIS Swimming program. <\/p>\n<p>Rollason is currently head coach at the Chandler Swimming Club in Brisbane, having guided Aussie golden girls Jodie Henry and Alice Mills to success in Athens. Raleigh currently heads Melbourne\u2019s Monash University\u2019s swimming program.<\/p>\n<p>Rollason and Raleigh will take up their positions at the AIS in Canberra in early 2005. It is expected that several of Rollason\u2019s leading squad, including Henry and Mills, will make the move south from sunny Queensland to the less inviting climate of Canberra.<\/p>\n<p>The departing coaches are British born Barry Prime and Glenn Beringen. Prime is the last of a group of three overseas coaches that joined the AIS after the Barcelona Olympics.  Together with Russian Gennadi Touretski and Canadian Jim Fowlie they made a big impact on swimming in Australia. Beringen, who coached Petria Thomas in her build up to Athens is moving out of elite swim coaching.  <\/p>\n<p>Following in his father\u2019s footsteps, AIS swimming scholarship coach John Fowlie (son of Jim) has been appointed assistant coach with the AIS Swimming program. Fowlie was part of the Aussie coaching staff at the World Short Course Swimming Champs in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Stephen J.
