LADY Hoosiers women&#39;s swimming and diving squad broke a two-meet losing skein with a pair of dominant triumphs over Kentucky (140-103) and Southwest Missouri State (176-64) on Saturday, Nov. 6 in the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind., to move to 3-2 on the season, per IU reports.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the Hoosiers picked up 11 of the 14 event titles with junior Kristen Bradley and sophomore Leila Vaziri claiming three titles apiece.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I thought we came back well from yesterday&#39;s loss,&quot; Head Coach Dorsey Tierney said. &quot;We were more fresh today, even though we were blindsided yesterday.  We had a lot more focus this meet and both Annica Lofstedt and Sarah Bugden were feeling better today.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>In the opening event of the meet, IU opened up a pair of 13-4 leads over both Kentucky and Southwest Missouri State when Vaziri, Bradley, senior Erin Smith and sophomore Annica Lofstedt claimed the 400-yard medley relay crown in 3:49.32.  Vaziri&#39;s 100-yard backstroke leadoff of 55.81 also cleared the NCAA provisional standard.  Kentucky&#39;s Jill Southerlan, Lindsay Myhre, Archer Davis and Sarah Kunz finished in second in 4:01.77, while the SMS quartet of Allison Zeller, Mallory Karpowicz, Audrey Clark and Chauntelle Johnson placed third in 4:02.96.<\/p>\n<p>In the initial individual race of the contest, junior Doherty Colgin captured the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:14.85, while Kentucky&#39;s Caitlin Muldoon finished in second in 10:24.39.  Additionally, IU sophomore Clarissa Wentworth took third in 10:26.92.  At the end of the event, IU led SMS, 26-9, and Kentucky, 25-11. Kentucky was ahead of SMS, 25-9.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200-yard freestyle, IU swept the top two spots with Vaziri in first in 1:52.89 and junior Lauren Torpey in second in 1:53.31.  UK&#39;s Marci Vrooman took third in 1:56.06.  With the 200y free completed, IU led Kentucky, 38-17, and SMS, 40-14, while Kentucky was ahead of SMS, 38-15.<\/p>\n<p>In the 50-yard freestyle, Kentucky&#39;s Jennifer Bradford finished in first with a 23.63, while IU&#39;s Lofstedt took second in 23.77 and UK&#39;s Jessica Siegele posted a third-place 24.01.  IU led Kentucky, 44-30 and SMS, 54-19, while Kentucky was ahead of SMS, 54-18, at the end of the event.<\/p>\n<p>In the 400-yard IM, Bradley cleared the B-cut standard for a first-place 4:22.94, while UK picked up the next two spots with Shantel Commander&#39;s second-place 4:27.71 and Laura Graham&#39;s third-place 4:28.85.  With the effort, IU maintained a 54-39 lead over Kentucky and a 69-23 lead over SMS, while Kentucky was in front of SMS, 70-21.<\/p>\n<p>In the diving break, freshman Christina Loukas picked up the one-meter title with a 307.40, while sophomore Lindsay Weigle finished in second with a 274.60.  Kentucky&#39;s Jessica Thompson took third with a 26.30 total.  All three marks cleared the NCAA zone qualifying standard in the event.  At the end of the initial diving portion of the day, IU remained in the lead with a 67-45 margin over Kentucky and an 84-27 lead over SMS, while Kentucky was ahead of SMS, 86-24.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200-yard butterfly, Bugden posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:01.60 for first place, while Smith took second with a 2:06.27.  Kentucky&#39;s Heather Bradford took third in 2:07.36.  IU extended its lead to 81-50 over Kentucky and 99-31 over SMS, while Kentucky was ahead of SMS, 101-28.<\/p>\n<p>In the 100-yard freestyle, Vaziri picked up the event title in 51.72, while UK&#39;s Bradford took second in 52.00 and IU&#39;s Colgin placed third in 52.90.  At the completion of the event, IU led Kentucky, 95-55, and SMS, 115-34, while UK was ahead of SMS, 115-33.  Also of note, Keefer notched a career-low 54.50 for seventh place.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200-yard backstroke, UK&#39;s Siegele seized the crown with a 2:01.96, while IU&#39;s Bugden took second in 2:04.83.  Kentucky&#39;s Southerlan placed third in 2:06.19.  Overall, IU led Kentucky, 101-68, and Southwest Missouri State, 128-39, while Kentucky was ahead of SMS, 131-36, at the end of the event.<\/p>\n<p>In the 500-yard freestyle, IU claimed the top two spots with Bradley in first in 4:56.86 and Torpey in second in 4:58.94.  SMS&#39;s Geisler finished in third in 5:08.90.  In the race, IU extended its 116-72 lead over Kentucky and its margin over SMS to 143-43, while Kentucky remained ahead of the Bears, 139-47.  Also of note, Fuchs clocked a personal-best 5:12.26 for sixth place.<\/p>\n<p>In the final diving break, IU helped itself to leads of 126-81 over Kentucky and 159-46 over Southwest Missouri State, while Kentucky led SMS, 155-50 in the three-meter springboard.  Weigle captured the crown for IU with a 281.60, while Kentucky&#39;s Joey Brown finished in second with a 277.90.  Both tallies cleared the NCAA zone qualifying mark.  Additionally, UK&#39;s Taryn Ignacio placed third with a 263.10.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Christina did a nice job winning the one-meter, while Lindsay did just as well in winning the three-meter,&quot; Head Diving Coach Dr. Jeff Huber said. &quot;We did not see some of the things we have seen in practice, though.  The things that were half-decent this week just did not show up in the meet.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>In the 200-yard breaststroke, Kentucky&#39;s Graham posted an NCAA B cut time of 2:17.40 to finish in first, while her teammate Commander took second in 2:20.37 and Myhre finished in third in 2:23.19.  IU, however, remained in front of UK, 129-97, and SMS, 165-58, while Kentucky led SMS, 171-53.<\/p>\n<p>In the final event of the meet, IU&#39;s quartet of Colgin, Lofstedt, Bugden and Wentworth won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:28.20, while SMS&#39;s Marcy O&#39;Neil, Andreina Rojas, Kyla Meuer and Audrey Clark took second in 3:35.82.  Additionally, Kentucky&#39;s Kelley Morrison, Sarah Kunz, Joanna McLean and Vrooman took third with a 3:37.86.<\/p>\n<p>At the conclusion of all competition, Indiana downed Kentucky, 140-103 and Southwest Missouri State, 176-62, while UK dropped SMS, 177-64.<\/p>\n<p>Next up, the Cream and Crimson play host to the Indiana Invitational Nov. 19-21 in the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BLOOMINGTON, IN, November 8.
