UNIVERSITY of Pittsburgh sources reported wins this past weekend for both their men and their women swimming and diving teams over Big East foe Syracuse.<\/p>\n<p><b> Men <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The No. 17-ranked Pittsburgh men\u2019s swimming and diving team defeated Syracuse, 177-66, for a conference win at Trees Pool on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The Panthers dominated the pool with 12 wins in their first Big East meet this season, including two wins apiece from senior diver Devin Aikins (York, Pa.\/ Southern Illinois University), freshman distance freestyler Chris George (Jacksonville, Fla.\/ The Bolles School), junior backstroker\/ freestyler\/ butterfly Eric Bugby (Easton, Pa.\/ Notre Dame) and junior butterfly\/ freestyler Jason Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa.\/ Cumberland Valley).  <\/p>\n<p>Aikins won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions with scores of 292.95 and 336.83 points. <\/p>\n<p>George was the winner of the 1000 freestyle, touching in with a first-place time of 9:37.44, more than eleven seconds faster than his nearest competitor, senior Hannes Kohnke (Malmo, Sweden\/Borgarskolan).  George also took first place in the 500 freestyle with a final time of 4:39.40.  <\/p>\n<p>Bugby placed first in the 50 freestyle (21.56 seconds), 100 freestyle (46.89 seconds) and teamed with junior Tommy Bird (Charleston, W.Va. \/ Capital), freshman Warren Barnes (Pickering, Ontario\/ Dunbarton) and Miller to take first with a time of 3:25.54 in the 400 medley relay to open the meet up. <\/p>\n<p>Miller was an individual winner in the 200 individual medley, with a time of 1:55.46, as well as the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:53.05.  Barnes placed first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:06.40.  <\/p>\n<p>Other winners for the Panthers in the morning were sophomore Jeff Leath (Mechanicsville, Va.\/ New Community) who got first place with a time of 1:51.39 in the 200 backstroke, and teamed with Bird, senior Michael Hand (Bethel Park, Pa.\/ Bethel Park) and junior Darryl Washington (Aldan, Pa.\/ Penn Wood) to finish the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay.  <\/p>\n<p>Pittsburgh men will take on Michigan State at Notre Dame on November 12 at 5:00 p.m.  <\/p>\n<p><b>Women<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Pittsburgh women\u2019s swimming and diving team won its first Big East match against Syracuse, 170-73, at Trees Pool. <\/p>\n<p>Included in the Panthers victories were three individual wins by sophomore freestyle\/IM specialist Kathy Siuda (Waterloo, Ontario\/ Bluvale Collegiate) and two individual wins apiece by junior freestyler\/ backstroker Kelly Redcay (Reading, Pa.\/ Wilson) and junior diver Colleen Kristobak (Bethel Park, Pa.\/ Bethel Park). <\/p>\n<p>Siuda was the winner of the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:20.11, as well as the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.52, and also, finishing first in the 500 freestyle at 5:02.40.  <\/p>\n<p>Redcay finished the 50 freestyle with a final time of 24.27 seconds, just .02 seconds ahead of second place winner freshman Kelly O\u2019Hara (Voorhees, N.J.\/Timber Creek). Redcay placed first in the 100 freestyle at 52.64 seconds, and also teamed with sophomore Andrea Shoust (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario\/White Pines C &#038; VS), O\u2019Hara, and freshman Kimmie Baird (Upper Dublin, Pa.\/Upper Dublin) to take first in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing with at 3:35.70. <\/p>\n<p>Kristobak won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions for the Panthers, scoring 270.53 on the 1-meter board and 296.03 on the 3-meter board. <\/p>\n<p>Shoust performed well with teammate\u2019s sophomore Lindsey Tiberio (Connellsville, Pa. \/ Greensburg Central Catholic), senior Jen Koch (Cincinnati, Ohio\/Mother of Mercy) and sophomore Kristin Brown (Berlin, Pa. \/ Bermudian Springs) to touch in with a first-place time of 3:50.64 in the 400 medley relay. Shoust also placed first in the 200 backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:04.25, to help bring the Panthers (2-0) to their second defeat in the season. <\/p>\n<p>Brown also assisted with a first place win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.32, almost two whole seconds faster than her nearest competitor. <\/p>\n<p>The Lady Panthers will take on Michigan State at Notre Dame on November 12 at 5:00 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PITTSBURGH, PA, November 1.
