NEW OREANS, LA, October 31. FRESHMEN accounted for three of the Green Wave\u2019s six individual wins and three were part of the meet champion 400-yard freestyle relay team as the Tulane University Women's swimming and diving team defeated Arkansas and UNO Saturday afternoon at the Reily Student Recreation Center Natatorium.<\/p>\n
Tulane reported that rookies Samantha Berdine, Tiffany Brown Sarah Dicharry won the 200 breast (2:27.30), 200 back (2:05.57) and 200 free (1:52.47), while Brown and Dicharry joined forces with fellow freshman Cara Davidoff and sophomore Linda McEachrane in the 400 free relay (3:30.67) in the double-dual meet sweep. Tulane handled UNO, 120-7, and edged the SEC Lady Backs, 74-67.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was a fun win for us,\u201d head coach Daniella Irle said. \u201cOur first showdown with an SEC school, and it was a great battle right from the start. It was close all the way \u2013 the lead kept changing every event \u2013 and the meet was actually decided on the final event. We showed a lot of composure to stay focused and take things one event at a time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe team learned today that they can compete well when tired. We have really been putting in the training, and we did not back off for this meet. Our attitude was to just come in and gut it out, no matter what our fatigue levels. No excuses, just results. We did that, and then some. It was an excellent day to be to be a member of the Green Wave, and I had a blast.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to the freshmen victories, McEachrane won the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.40 and sophomore Taylor Emerson finished first in the 200 fly with a mark of 2:08.89. The Green Wave also posted 10 second-place showings, including a 1:55.35 mark in the 200 free by Berdine, a 59.00 in the 100 back by Brown, and a time of 2:10.4 by freshman Leeann Laing in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Nicole Taheri and Leslie Christian finished 2-3 in the 1,000 free with times of 10:30.18 and 10:37.18, respectively, and again in the 500 free with marks of 5:08.23 and 5:16.36. Sophomore Katherine McCoy (24.78) and Davidoff (24.81) finished 2-3 for the Green Wave in the 50 free, as did McEachrane (52.41) and Dicharry (52.86) in the 100 free, and Emerson (58.80) and freshman Kate Naglick (59.81) in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Maureen Quinn was runner up in the 200 breast with a time of 2:29.27, and the quartet of Brown, McEachrane, Naglick and Davidoff were second in the 200 medley relay with a mark of 1:49.48.<\/p>\n
In diving action, freshman Danielle Carrillo posted season-bests with a 222.23 in the one-meter competition a 231.15 in the three-meter springboard, and her three-meter mark was also a lifetime best.<\/p>\n
The Green Wave return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6, when Tulane travels to Little Rock, Ark., to take on Henderson State, North Texas and host Arkansas-Little Rock in a double-dual meet at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
