DIVISION III Randolph-Macon College defeated Randolph-Macon Woman's College on Friday in a yearly event that doubtless makes editors do a double-take every year.

After the annual showdown between the "Randy-Macs", the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College (a coed school of 1150 students in Ashland, Va.) announced it had defeated the WildCats of Randolph-Macon Woman's College (an all-female school of 760 students in Lynchburg, Va.) 63-32 in conference action on Friday evening in Lynchburg.

The Yellow Jackets of R-MC won 7 of the 11 events to claim their sixth straight dual meet win over the WildCats of R-MWC. The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, while R-MWC opened their season with the conference loss.

In the first three events, the visiting Randolph-Macon squad swept the top two places to jump out to a 23-2 lead. Erin Ewalt (Reisterstown, MD/ Baltimore Lutheran), the ODAC's Swimmer of the Year for the past two seasons, was a triple winner for R-MC, winning the 200 free (2:03.67), 200 back (2:16.35), and swimming the opening leg of the 200 medley relay (2:01.39). Another multiple winner was Katherine Godwin, a freshman from Catonsville, MD (Notre Dame Prep), who won both the 100 (58.46) and 1000 free (11:28.72). The Yellow Jackets also had strong performances by sophomore Katie Duff (Williamsburg, VA/ Walsingham Academy), who won the 200 breast in 2:37.37, and freshman Aimee Powell (Mechanicsville, VA/ Atlee), who clenched the 200 fly in 2:22.54.

For the WildCats of Randolph-Macon Woman's College, junior Brittany Guthrie (Mesa, AZ/ Red Mountain) won a close battle in the 50 free, finishing in 26.44. Sophomore Kim Edmonds (Mechanicsville, VA/ Lee-Davis) won the 200 IM (2:22.85) and was second in the 200 breast with a school record 2:39.52. Birget Moe, a junior from Melbourne, FL (The Webb School) won the 500 free and the Wildcats also won the 200 free relay.

Randolph-Macon Head Coach Dave Holland was pleased with his team's performance.

"We've always enjoyed the team spirit that is engendered when the two Randolph-Macon teams come together, and tonight there was terrific energy on both sides of the pool. We're not overly obsessed about our times at this early point in the season, but I was happy with the way our girls tackled their races and supported each other after a tough week of training and weights."

LYNCHBURG, VA, October 23.
