TALLAHASSEE, FLA, October 20. FLORIDA State University swimming and diving head coach Neil Harper knew if his teams performed as expected, the Seminoles would come out on top in their meets last Friday. The Tribe did well and FSU was happy to announce wins for both squads against Florida A&M, with the women adding victories over Tulane and North Florida.<\/p>\n
\tThe men\u2019s team posted a 253-34 score over the Rattlers, while the women topped FAMU by a score of 243-29, the Green Wave 195-98 and North Florida by 234-63.<\/p>\n
\tFlorida State started the meet on a high note with both teams winning the 400-yard medley relay. Taking the women\u2019s race was the team of Emily Breen (Savannah, Ga.), Lauren Brick (Culpeper, Va.), Lisa How (Preston, England) and Abbie King (Brusnwick, Maine). Victorious on the men\u2019s side was the quartet of Jared Heine (Honolulu, Hawaii), Billy Jamerson (Savannah, Ga.), Michael Averett (Davie, Fla.) and Alex Kennon (Winter Haven, Fla.)<\/p>\n
\tWinning the women\u2019s 1,000 free was Angie Leach (Leesburg, Fla.) with her top time of 10:27.24 and the men\u2019s race went to Kyle Young (Oviedo, Fla.) as he touched in at 9:34.88. <\/p>\n
Steve Roof (Canton, Ohio) led a one-two-three FSU finish in the 200 free with a mark of 1:41.58. Tthe Seminoles swept the top three spots in the 100 back with Heine taking top honors at 52.99.<\/p>\n
\tBrick won in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:04.66, while Paul Erben (Panama City, Fla.) won the men\u2019s version with a top time of 59.45. <\/p>\n
Rookie Lindsay Kenney (Plano, Texas) won the women\u2019s 200 fly in a time of 2:06.56. Fellow freshman Ian Powell (Guernsey, Channel Islands) took the men\u2019s 200 fly at 1:53.12.<\/p>\n
\tThe rookie streak continued in the 50-yard freestyle as King won in 24.17, while Jamerson posted a 21.52 to take the men\u2019s race. <\/p>\n
Scoring one for the veterans was the senior Breen as she captured the 100 free with at time of 52.32 and classmate Averett took the men\u2019s heat with a 46.43.<\/p>\n
\t\u201cWe had to stay focused,\u201d Harper said. \u201cThese are all teams that are on the rise, they\u2019re all doing well. What we thought we would do is experiment and puts kids in some different events, but these teams caused us to go with some of our better kids. The focus is that the kids executed. We haven\u2019t had a meet in three weeks and it\u2019s important that they stay sharp and I\u2019m happing with the results we\u2019ve had.\u201d<\/p>\n
\tFreshmen Stacey Rademacher (Charlotte, N.C.) continued the rookie\u2019s winning ways as she picked up her first victory at 2:05.76 in the 200 backstroke. <\/p>\n
Heine became the first multiple winner in the individual events as he brought home the blue ribbon in the 200 back with a 1:56.56. <\/p>\n
Brick joined Heine as a multiple winner, taking the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:24.14. The 200 breaststroke also made a double winner out of Erben as he edged Tommy Bishop (Houston, Texas) at 2:11.08.<\/p>\n
\tTouching in first in the women\u2019s 500 freestyle was senior Golda Marcus (Coral Springs, Fla.) with a winning time of 4:57.57 and the men\u2019s race was won by Andrew Skaggs (Jacksonville, Fla.) as he hit the wall in 4:48.36. <\/p>\n
Adding an individual victory to her relay score was How as she won the 100 butterfly at 56.94. Also scoring his first triumph was Stephan Connor (Hinsdale, Ill.) as he posted a 51.47.<\/p>\n
\tCaptain Courtney McClow (Jacksonville, Fla.) swept both boards, winning the one-meter with a tally of 300.25. Her score of 290.05 won the three-meter competition. Rookie Alex Tilbrook (Largo, Fla.) also won on both boards among the men, chalking up a 286.35 to take the one-meter board and a 317.70 that won the three-meter.<\/p>\n
\tBreen came back for her second triumph of the meet, winning the 200 individual medley with a 2:06.92. Getting in the winner\u2019s circle for the first time on the day was Joel Roycik (Winter Park, Fla.) as he was the first one to the wall in the 200 IM at 1:58.37. <\/p>\n
The Seminoles closed out the meet by winning both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 400-yard freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
\tFlorida State is back in action next Friday when they travel to the West Coast for a meet at California, followed by a Saturday contest at Pacific. The Seminoles return home on November 16 to take on Florida.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
