FOR the fourth-straight year and fifth-time meeting, the University of Florida women\u2019s swimming and diving teams defeated No. 16 Michigan in UM\u2019s home pool, 164 to 131.<\/p>\n<p>Florida reported Gator performances, including wins in 11 of 16 swimming and diving events. This bumps the Gator record up to 5-0 against the Wolverines.<\/p>\n<p>Taking runner-up in the 1000-yard free was sophomore Katie Ball (Cincinnati, Ohio) with a 9:53.57 effort for Florida. Behind Ball, senior and two-time All-American  Meredith Green (Chapel Hill, N.C.) swam the 1000 free in 10:03.15, good for a third-place showing. Jamie Tannhauser (Seattle, Wash.) also competed in the event, registering 10:11.27 on the stopwatch for fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline Burckle (Louisville, Ky.) notched a 1:49.52 in the 200-yard free for a first-place finish in the event. Her time also a marked a provisional qualifying mark for the freshman, the first of her career. Swimming 1:50.86 in the 200 free was freshman Natalie Pike (Boca Raton), good for third place, while in fifth was UF\u2019s Kim Larson (Longwood) with a final clocking of 1:54.93 for the freshman.<\/p>\n<p>Another event title was captured when Jamie Reid (Orlando) swam the 100 back in 56.59 for the Gators. In third place with a 57.15 effort was freshman Samantha Vanderbilt (Nashville, Tenn.), followed by Kristen Harris (Holmdel, N.J.) who warranted fourth with her 58.81 time in the 100-yard back.<\/p>\n<p>Scoring again, Florida marked 11 more points in the books as junior Mandy Huff (Gold Hill, N.C.) swam her way to a 100-yard breaststroke title (1:05.31) while senior Katie Kennedy (Ft. Myers) took fourth with a 1:06.66 clocking.<\/p>\n<p>Notching first, second and third places in the 200 fly and burning the competition, Rebecca Harper (Richmond, Va.), Ashley Carusone (High Springs) and Meredith Green (Chapel Hill, N.C.) each garnered times of 2:02.29, 2:03.29 and 2:04.23, respectively, finishing more than six seconds ahead of any Michigan swimmers.<\/p>\n<p>Taking first in two events, for the second-straight meet, senior Maureen Farrell (Northridge, Calif.) captured titles in the 50-yard free (23.64) and in the 100-yard free (51.07) for UF. Farrell\u2019s time in the 100 free garnered an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark. Also in the 100 free were Christine Woodruff (Orlando) and Kristin Gilliam (Gainesville) taking third (53.61) and fourth (53.87) places for Florida, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Two NCAA provisional-qualifying marks were swum by the Gators in the 200-yard backstroke, along with the top-four placings in that event. Sophomore Leah Retrum (Columbus, Ind.) led the way with a 100-back time of 1:58.71, good for a NCAA provisional mark and first place. Reid followed in second, clocking the back in 1:59.26 for another NCAA provisional mark. Harris and Tannhauser finished in third (2:06.33) and fourth (2:08.63), respectively, but Tannhauser\u2019s time for Florida was exhibitioned.<\/p>\n<p>In the 500-yard free, Burckle racked up another title as the freshman swam 4:51.61, earning another NCAA provisional time and her second of the meet. Swimming 57.26 in the 100-yard fly, freshman Colleen Healy (Cape Coral) took home the title. With the fastest time in the 200-yard IM, Retrum clocked 2:04.53.<\/p>\n<p>In the 400-yard medley relay, the \u2018B\u2019 team consisting of Vanderbilt, Amanda Hartley (Tallahassee), Harper and Pike took second with a 3:51.46 team effort. Behind them, the Florida \u2018A\u2019 team clocked 3:51.99 (Reid, Kennedy, Healy and Gilliam). Clocking 3:30.69 in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the second fastest time in the event, were Pike, Farrell, Retrum and Burckle for UF.<\/p>\n<p>In diving, the Gators took both the one- and three-meter titles, and they were all handed to senior Nicole Bolt (Orlando). Bolt scored 18 points solo for Florida. Her one-meter diving score of 276.53 and three-meter score of 286.50 put her in first place in both events. Maureen McGinty (Orlando) took fourth place in both events (242.40 and 234.53) while Sarah Ellerby (Oldsmar) finished the one-meter in seventh (192) and the three-meter in sixth place (200.85).<\/p>\n<p>Thus concludes the match against the No. 16 Michigan Wolverines. The Gator women\u2019s swimming and diving teams will return to the water next week, as they play host to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Stephen C. O\u2019Connell Center. The meet kicks off at 4 p.m. and will feature the men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving teams from Florida and Georgia.
