MARTINA Moravcova defended the championship she won at the 2002 Moscow short course Worlds touching at 57.38.  America\u2019s Rachel Komisarz (57.85) and Jenny Thompson (58.13) corralled the other medals.<\/p>\n<p>The award platform valued experience.  All three medal winners were born in 1976 or earlier.  This is Moravcova\u2019s 7th career short course Worlds gold medal and Thompson\u2019s 50 butterfly earlier this week was her 8th.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson went out aggressively in a clear effort to seek gold on the last night of her last meet.  The session had opened with a special tribute the highly decorated swimmer.  She still had the 50 freestyle to go, but clearly had her better chance at a top finish in the butterfly.  <\/p>\n<p>Jenny led to about the 45 meter mark before Moravcova edged in front, :27.03 to :27.19.  Martina then gradually pulled away, with Komisarz also moving away from Jenny over the last length.
