LISBETH Lenton (AUS), former world record holder in the long course 100 freestyle, pulled away from Marleen Veldhuis of the Netherlands, second at the 50, and then held off Sweden\u2019s Josefin Lillhage over the final portions of the race to win her first FINA world championship.  <\/p>\n<p>Lenton\u2019s time, :52.67, was a U.S. Open record.  Lillhage\u2019s silver medal time was :53.56.  Veldhuis held of America\u2019s Kara Lynn Joyce for the bronze, :53.88 to :54.09, as the USA was shut out for medals for the first time in the championships..<\/p>\n<p>Lenton led at the 50 in :25.29 and returned in :27.38, fastest first and second 50s.<\/p>\n<p>Phil W.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INDIANAPOLIS, IN, October 9.
