THROUGH five days of exciting swimming Great Britain leads in both overall medals and Golds.  The USA stands sixth in overall podium appearances but is third in trips to the top platform, as reported by USOC Media and Paralympic Staff.<\/p>\n<p>SWIMMING<br \/>\nMEDAL COUNT<\/p>\n<p>TEAM USA<br \/>\nGOLD 8<br \/>\nSILVER 2<br \/>\nBRONZE 7<br \/>\nTotal 17<\/p>\n<p>OVERALL STANDINGS<br \/>\nGreat Britain 29<br \/>\nSpain 23<br \/>\nChina 22<br \/>\nAustralia 21<br \/>\nCanada 18 <\/p>\n<p>GOLD MEDAL STANDINGS<br \/>\nGreat Britain 11<br \/>\nSpain 9<br \/>\nUSA 8<br \/>\nCanada 8<br \/>\nUkraine \/China 7 <\/p>\n<p>Michael DeMarco led off the night for Team USA earning a Bronze medal in the Men\u2019s SB2 50m Breaststroke, in an American Record time of 1:03.20. This was his first Games and first Paralympic medal. <\/p>\n<p>In the Women\u2019s SM10 200m Individual Medley, Mikhaila Rutherford easily swam away with the Gold, beating her nearest competitor by nearly 5 seconds. Her time of 2:38.10 was a new American Record, breaking the previous time of 2:42.93 that she had set in the morning  preliminaries.  <\/p>\n<p>Rutherford\u2019s Gold brings her medal tally to two as she finished second in the Women\u2019s SB8 100m Breaststroke two nights ago. Rutherford also competes in the Women\u2019s S10 100m Backstroke on the 25th. Rutherford is the current World Record holder and defending World Champion in that event and hopes to earn her second Gold medal of the Games in that event. <\/p>\n<p>NEWS &#038; NOTABLES\u2026.<br \/>\n  10 of 11 individual swims advanced to the finals on Day 5. <\/p>\n<p>  Team USA set 4 American and 1 Pan American Record in the Preliminaries of Day 5. <\/p>\n<p>  Team USA set 7 American and 2 Pan American Records in the Finals of Day 5. <\/p>\n<p>  The US Team placed 3 finalists in the SM9 Men\u2019s 200 Individual Medley.
